Together for a Cleaner Amatitan
With the support of students from the COBAEJ Achio and the Amatitán Government, we cleaned 3 km of the highway that leads to our production plant. This exercise was carried out to collect the garbage on the side road to prevent the waste from reaching the rivers during the rainy season. During the activity, we collected 486 kg of non-recyclable inorganic waste, preventing it from generating an impact on our rivers. Likewise, by incorporating young people into this activity, we contribute to generating environmental awareness and making them aware of the environmental impact caused by not placing waste in its corresponding container.
Fighting Cancer with Bottle Plastic Caps
We have implemented campaigns to collect plastic caps to donate them to the "Banco de Tapitas" Civil Association, which generates economic resources with them to support programs in support of children with cancer. At the moment, we have donated 1 ton of plastic caps, which have supported the following programs: * 3 doses of chemotherapy, 6 Mercatopurines, and 30 Methotrexate. * 40 cans of food supplements of 400 grams. * 100 pantries. * 10 nights of lodging during treatments. * 10 bus tickets for transportation to the hospital.
Installation of Solar Panels to Produce Clean Energy
The excellent geographical location of Amatitán privileges us as we have high solar radiation throughout the year. We have taken advantage of this by investing in photovoltaic solar energy to reinforce our commitment to sustainability by gradually incorporating alternative and renewable energy into our production processes. In 2022, we have installed 4,841m2 of Solar Panels to produce electrical energy, representing 39% of our total energy consumption.
Use of Bagasse as Biofuel
The main remnant of our Agave Solutions production processes is the bagasse, a fiber from the Agave that is obtained at the end of its juice extraction. Bagasse is an organic waste with the potential to be used as biofuel; therefore, we co-process it to make briquettes, solid and compact blocks of biofuel that convert into thermal energy (steam) for the operation of our processes. Thereby, we reduce our carbon footprint and the usage of fossil fuels.
FairTSA Projects' Pantries
The development of commercial projects with a Fair Trade approach mainly benefits all our collaborators, directly involved in our Agave Solutions' production process. In this way, in 2022, the funds generated in projects with FairTSA certification; have been invested in acquiring basic shopping basket products. As a result, 704 pantries were delivered, meeting the satisfaction and needs of our employees and their families.
Cerro de La Tortuga, Amatitán, Reforestation
The environment's conservation is a key factor in our community; for this reason, and to contribute to the recovery of the Amatitán’s forest area (after a forest fire occurred in the first half of 2022), we performed our tree-planting project in 2022. This time we reforested 2,250 m² in Cerro de La Tortuga, planting with SEMADET and V-ECO more than 150 trees of the Tepehuajes, Capulines Negros, Guajes Verdes and Guajes Blancos species, which are estimated to mitigate 1,050 tons of CO₂ per year.
Amatitán's Red Cross
In 2022 we are contributing to the restoration and equipment of the Amatitán’s Red Cross, donating labor and materials for construction, pipes’ reparation, and electrical installations, as well as medical supplies, medicines, and office furniture. This action reinforces our commitment to the humanitarian cause and the passion for serving Amatitán and its surrounding communities, ensuring the population has decent and functional facilities to receive medical care and emergency services.
Encouraging Women's Education
The participation of women within society and the economic sector is increasingly notable and important; that is why academic development is vital. To contribute to this, we have participated with the sponsorship of a sporting event from which the funds collected are directed to providing educational scholarships to women from basic to medium-higher levels.
Adobe Bricks
To migrate towards a circular economy, a production and consumption model that guarantees sustainable growth, we have created alliances with our clients to produce adobe bricks that can be used in construction projects that benefit our community. These adobe bricks are made with the Amatitán region's clay and sand, agave bagasse, vinasse, and biomass ashes; these last three are remnants of our production process. By taking advantage of this waste, we reinforce our social and environmental commitment.
El Centinela Forest Reforestation
Regarding environmental awareness, during 2021, we collaborated on a significant reforestation project with the urban forest Bosque El Centinela which is a protected ecological area. In 750 Square meters, we planted a total of 50 trees of endemic forest species such as guaje, tepehuaje, and mesquite, which are estimated to mitigate 350 tons of Carbone Dioxide (CO2) per year.
Tecuane Bridge
In 2020 we participated in the construction of the bridge in the Barranca de Tecuane to benefit Agua Prieta and surrounding communities. This infrastructure is essential as, during the rainy season, the communication and economic activities in the region are affected as the river overflows and blocks the circulation completely.
Wheelchairs Delivery
The families' quality of life is an important factor in our ideology; that is why we provided wheelchairs to the relatives of our employees, who needed this resource to improve their mobility and facilitate their movements. *Project developed with FairTSA.
School Equipment
To improve the quality of education of the children in our community, we supported the schools attended by our employees' children. Each school was equipped with different materials requested according to its needs. *Project developed with Fairtrade FLO.
